Our morning routine involves getting Niko settled at the table, usually with cereal or toast, some fruit and some milk, and accompanied by some form of YouTube video: Caillou, Smurfs or Thomas the Tank Engine. In general Niko doesn’t watch a lot of TV, but during breakfast he’s allowed to enjoy his shows while Mommy and Daddy get the morning started – showers, cleaning the kitchen, coffee!, etc.

We know it’s user beware when it comes to the internet, but after months of watching Caillou episodes Borys may have let his guard down this weekend. It seems some people like to tamper with children’s shows, and then post them on YouTube. On this particular morning, Niko was happily settled in for an episode of Caillou and Daddy had stepped into the kitchen to prepare some Cheerios, only vaguely tuned in to what was going on in the dining room, but his senses sharpening when he heard the voice of Caillou let out an very loud and exaggerated “F**k You”!!!. This is how it went…

Caillou (in his regular whiny voice): Mommy…blah blah blah (or whatever he was saying…). Yadda yadda yadda…(you get the idea..).

Then… dun dun dun… F**k You!!!

At this point Daddy’s ears were alerted and he rushed in to change the video. At which point Niko looked up at him and said quite seriously, “Daddy, Niko no like it.” (Note: Yes, he officially started referring to himself as Niko, instead of Kiko.)

Good boy Niko. Good boy.

Note to self: Must pay closer attention to what is being shown on YouTube.

It’s been a while since I posted any videos. It’s not that I haven’t been taking any, it’s just finding  time to scroll through them, choose my favs, upload them to YouTube and then write about it, takes a little time and brain power: neither of which I have  much of an extra supply of these days.  Yah, this whole “working full time outside of the house” gig sure is cutting into my blogging time. Geesh. Anyway, below are a few links to some of the latest Niko vids. Enjoy.

Baby Niko Walks for the First Time (0:14)

  • Ok, ok, I realize he’s not actually walking unassisted, but he is walking independent of Mama and Dada by holding on to and pushing a toy walker. Go Niko Go!

Baby Niko Plays with Frasier the Poodle (1:03)

  • On this particular day, Niko discovered Frasier’s toy and for the first time used it to entice Frasier to play.

Baby Niko Finds the Poodle (0:31)

  • This may not sound like much, but when Niko finally showed that he understood who and where Frasier was, it was a big deal to us, his trusty parents.

Baby Niko Laughs at a Strange Noise (0:57)

  • ‘Nuff said. Who can resist a laughing Niko baby? I think I detect a flavour of a fake laugh here too? Is that even possible for a baby? At one point Niko laughs so hard it looks like he’s going to choke on his giggles…

One thing’s for sure, you won’t see any bubbles coming from this gum, but lately Niko has really taken to chomping on his tongue, and it looks just like he’s chewing a piece of gum. He does this so much that we fear he may be drafted early to the Major Leagues… I mean we’ll look over at him in his exersaucer or Bumbo chair and see him just chewing away – and it really does look like he’s got a huge wad of bubblegum in there. Does this mean teeth are in the near future?

Note: The newest Niko video is up on YouTube! Our Baby Story Months 1 & 2

Using my point and shoot digital camera, we have been taking video clips of Niko since he was born This week I finally got around to editing some of the clips together into short movies. When I actually got down to business I realized I had more clips than I thought, and the first movie I made is about 15 minutes and documents his stint in the NICU when he was first born. When I uploaded it to You Tube I had to divide it into two parts – seeing as it was too long, but if you do take a look I would recommend watching both parts consecutively as they really do go together.

Watching the clips and making the video has brought back a lot of memories: it has been fun, although a touch emotional. Niko’s come such a long way: from a preemie living in the hospital to a thriving baby keeping us on our toes at home!

NOTE: If you look at the home page of this blog, you will notice that I have added another page called Niko Videos, along the top tool bar. I plan to edit all the remaining clips into movies and when they are completed and uploaded to You Tube, I will post them there.
