This past weekend Niko showed an interest in taking up piano by tickling the ivory every chance he got. Do we have a mini-Bach in the making? Judging from the sounds he pounded out on the keys, probably not. But did he have fun playing this pint sized piano? You betcha.

I’ve written before about my take on noisy toys, and have taken the stance that they’re something to look forward to when we go to friends’ houses. It’s always interesting to see the collection of toys each little person has at their own house. I mean all the collections are different and it is something for the Little N Man to anticipate on his play dates. So yes, Niko had a ball playing on Ruby’s red piano. But are we going to get one for him? I don’t think so.

PS – Note the little pink cell phone by Niko’s knee, which is in fact one of the only “noisy” toys we’ve ever bought for him. I guess he doesn’t want to miss any important calls, so he keeps it close.

Niko: I’m a big boy in a big boy stroller. 🙂

This was Niko’s first time enjoying the view from his stroller as he was meant to: sitting up and looking forward (despite the fact that his straps are a little loose). Up until now he’s been cruising in his car seat: looking skyward with the seat clipped into the stroller. But at six months he seems ready for the new view and this easy access to his toys!

Niko is now learning or doing something new everyday. Among other “milestones”, shrieking seems to tickle his fancy and reigns high at the top of his daily to-do list.

Mommy: What a beautiful voice you have Niko!

Niko has been getting really close to rolling over, and the past couple of days have been the closest. He has a play mat with dangling toys and he likes to lie on it and swing at the toys or pull them or bite them or whatever it is he feels like doing in the moment. Anyway, last night, he was having a great time just rolling from side to side, while babbling and shrieking out in glee, while swinging/pulling/biting on the dangling toys.

Actually he became quite mobile in his antics and ended up completely off the mat just lying on the hardwood floor. Not to worry, we didn’t let him lie there for too long, just long enough to get a few pics of his gymnastics.  Then we moved him back on the mat and the mat further onto the rug. We just wonder when these side turns will turn into complete rollovers? Looks like it could be sooner than later.

Yesterday Niko was  invited out on a play date to Baby Emilia’s house, where he was surrounded by four lovely ladies: three other babies and one toddler. When he got there he was happy to see so many new and exciting toys and especially happy to discover the amazing exersaucer!  So much so that when we got home and told Daddy about it, he ran out and bought one for Niko! Now Niko can happily “exersauce” the days away, bouncing about while discovering all the fun toys that are right at his fingertips. I think Dziadzio put it well when he first saw Niko’s new toy: “Oh my, what a stuff! In my age we got a little spade and a little pail and GO! That’s it.”

And as always there are things that we as new parents learn as we go along: playing in the exersaucer was no exception. Parent lesson learned post exersaucer purchase? Don’t put him in it right after eating, as the follow up was A LOT of spit up! Oh, well, he was entitled seeing as it is was his four month birthday! xx Niko, we are so happy that you have joined our family!
