1) Officially the most pregnant I’ve ever been in my life!

36 weeks, 2 days. (Niko was born at 36 on the nose.)

2) Instant Jello Chocolate Pudding

The foolproof recipe on the box provided a great “baking” experience for Niko and me. My little chef loved helping with the mixing and then licking the beaters and spoon.

3) Shaving my legs is proving difficult

Ok, a weird thing to smile at I know. But I consider this to be a direct reflection of the progression of my pregnancy – that big ol’ belly is just gettin’ in the way. And seeing as it’s so big, means my baby is growing and still safe inside me! Having had Niko a month early and my son Yuri at only 21 weeks, anything that shows me this pregnancy is doing well is good by me! Even if it means I only have the energy to shave one leg on any given day!

4) The prospect of going for a pedicure!

I want red holiday toes.

5) My library books came in!

I placed about 15 holds. First up?

According to Daddy three major developments took place in the life of our child yesterday: two of which I will also vouch for. First off, on Wednesday nights I usually go to a cardio-kickboxing class, but seeing as my back is bothering me this week, I decided to take the night off from cardio class, and run a few errands – ranging from picking up poop-n-scoop bags for Frasier to indulging in a pedicure (and a few others in between!) I am still amazed, when left to my own devices, at how much I can accomplish in an hour or two these days (as opposed to the pre-Niko days).  Anyway, as I was getting ready to go Borys urgently called me back up the stairs to see this first “milestone”.  Sure enough Niko was holding Sophie the Giraffe and bringing her up to his mouth to chew.  Borys tested a few times to make sure it wasn’t a fluke and each time, Niko grabbed the giraffe and brought it back to his mouth.  Now this may sound like no big deal, but this show of hand eye coordination had yet to be seen from our little babe, so in our eyes, this was very exciting! And again, I am amazed at what now “excites” us, to when I compare what was categorized as excitement in the pre-Niko days.

Round two of the “milestones” happened when I returned home. As I gingerly walked up the snowy steps in my flip-flops (careful to take care of those pampered toes), and into the house, I immediately heard Borys calling from upstairs: “Alli, come here! Come here!”, not in a tone of panic but again one of those post-Niko birth excited type voices.  So, I made my way as quickly as I could all the way to the upstairs bathroom to find Niko on his back on the counter (post-diaper change I am assuming) and Borys excitedly saying “Daddy!” in this really over-exaggerated (and I guess funny) voice! Well, lo and behold, Niko was giggling, and it was adorable! Giggling! What a wonderful sound to hear coming from your baby – once I find my camera (it’s currently MIA – but so were my license and cell phone, and I found both of them) I have to get a video of this! Borys swears he was “really” giggling even more before I got there. However I did catch the tail end, and it was worth putting my pedicure in jeopardy to hear that lovely sound! (P.S. – My pedicure survived the rush, impeccably).

And the thrid “milestone” which I have yet to bare witness to, but will write about anyway seeing as Borys claims it’s true, is that Niko said “Dah-dee” a.k.a. “Daddy”! Hmm…I am not too sure about that one.

I believe a little indulgence is good for everyone; from time to time you just have to treat yourself.  And for what reason? Merely because you deserve it! This is my philosophy and following it makes me happy. Some women love to shop, others prefer getting their hair done: my indulgence lies in the quiet of a home salon that I like to frequent every five or six weeks.  Lying quietly, and enjoying a pedicure is my thing.  Just over a year ago I decided that pedicures were something I wanted to treat myself to on a regular basis.  I love the relaxing atmosphere, and the way my feet look and feel after a good soak, scrub, massage and polish.  It was very easy to follow my pedicure schedule in the pre-Niko days, but once he was born I found myself wondering: Will I ever have time for another pedicure?

Day after day I noticed my old pedicure dwindling, slowly being clipped off by my own clippers, the polish growing out, and me left yearning for yet another visit to my esthetician.  But days and weeks passed and there really just didn’t seem to be a good time to go, until yesterday.  Borys had the day off work, so after we payed our respects to the veterans I headed out to get my feet done, and it was so worth it!  In talking with my pedicurist I found out that she is open for business in the evenings as well; this was music to my ears because it means the next time I need a pedicure I can wait until Borys is home from work, he can Niko-sit and I can go off and indulge in this lovely little foot treat! Happy feet make for a happy mommy!
